Therapeutic Horse Riding for Children in Mid Sussex
Court Meadow RDA offers weekly therapeutic riding for children with special educational needs, at Tremaines Riding Stables, Treemans Road, Horsted Keynes, RH17 7EA – about 10 minutes from Haywards Heath, Lindfield and Scaynes Hill.
When we ride
Thursday mornings in school term time, from 9:45am to just after midday. Each lesson lasts about 30 minutes, with four lessons each morning.
How a session works
Every rider is supported by a qualified coach, a pony leader and two side walkers. Riders learn riding and horse care, work towards RDA national grades, and our sessions are monitored by RDA regional and national inspections.
For schools
We currently ride with pupils from Hill Park School, The Hive and Brantridge School, working alongside teaching staff to tailor each session.
For families
Individual riders attend with a parent, family member or carer. Demand is very high and we keep a waiting list. To ask about a place, use our contact form (choose “Riding enquiry”) or call 030 02 010 039.
Questions families often ask
What age range do you take?
We welcome riders of all ages, with no age limits. Most of our riders are of primary and secondary school age.
Is there a cost?
Lessons are 100% free for families. There is no charge for any session – your support and donations make this possible.
Are there any limits for riders?
To protect our ponies’ welfare, there is a rider weight limit. Otherwise, we look at every rider individually, and we’ll always talk through your child’s needs and circumstances with you before they start.
How long is the waiting list?
Waiting times vary. Places open up when a rider moves on, and the more volunteers we have, the more children we can welcome. So please get in touch and we’ll add your child to the list.
What should riders wear?
We provide riding hats. Riders need closed shoes and long, comfortable trousers.
